Wordspired Moment of Impact Day 13: How to Develop Understanding by Kay J - Daniels

Day 13: How to Develop Understanding

HOW TO DEVELOP UNDERSTANDING

The key to enthronement in life is good understanding, which brings good favor. However, understanding is not a function of age, status, or experience.

For instance, Job was a man loved by God, a righteous man who feared God and avoided evil. However, Job found himself caught in a conflict between God and Satan, leading to the loss of nearly everything he possessed. To make matters worse, his wife, lacking spiritual insight, advised him to "curse God and die." His three friends also failed him, taunting him rather than offering true support.

Job's fears provided an opening for Satan to afflict him, as fear is often described as "false evidence appearing real." Everything Job feared eventually came upon him.

However, a young man named Elihu, who had observed Job’s conversation with his friends, finally spoke up. Let us consider his words:

Job 32:1-10 (KJV)

"So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God. Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job. Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he. When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled. And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion. I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding. Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment. Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion."

Lessons from This Story:

  1. It pays to serve God in truth and honesty.

  2. We should not give in to fear, as what we fear may eventually manifest.

  3. We must continually feed our faith, as faith is the hand that receives from God.

  4. We should never be blackmailed into rejecting God under any circumstance.

  5. We should not allow those with emotional influence over us to always have the final say.

  6. We must choose our friends wisely—one good friend is invaluable, but three bad friends can be destructive.

  7. We must be open to godly counsel, even from the young.

  8. Wisdom and understanding are not dependent on age or experience.

Requirements for Building Understanding:

1. Be Committed to Reading

Books shape our outlook and build understanding.

Daniel 9:2 (KJV)
"In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem."

Paul’s Commitment to Reading:

1 Timothy 4:13-15 (KJV)
"Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all."

2 Timothy 4:13 (KJV)
"The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments."

Even Jesus valued reading:

Matthew 21:13 (KJV)
"And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves."

It takes a reader to know what is written.

2. Be Committed to Listening

Faith, which is spiritual understanding, comes by listening to the Word of God.

Romans 10:17 (KJV)
"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

John 1:12 (KJV)
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name."

Luke 1:45 (KJV)
"And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord."

3. Be Committed to Writing

Writing enhances understanding. What we write, we internalize and pursue with purpose.

Psalm 149:9 (KJV)
"To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the Lord."

Habakkuk 2:1-4 (KJV)
"I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith."

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I ask for the Spirit of understanding to rest upon me. Open my heart to wisdom, guide my steps in knowledge, and help me grow in faith. I reject fear and embrace divine insight. I receive the grace to read, listen, and write with purpose. Let my understanding lead to enthronement in life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
